Abstract

926,195. Bottle capping apparatus. BUSH & RANK CINTEL Ltd. Dec. 14, 1961 [Dec. 14, 1960], No. 43064/60. Class 125(2). Apparatus for detecting the presence of closures upon containers, e.g. bottles, presented sequentially at an inspection position in container capping apparatus, and to provide an indication whenever more than a predetermined number of containers are presented without closures, includes a light source 1, lens 2 and reflector 3 whereby the path of light 5 to a light sensitive device 6 is at least partially interrupted by the presence of a container 7, eg. a bottle, at said position. If a closure 8 is present a light sensitive device 10 is illuminated by a reflected light path 9. The devices 6 and 10 form part of a D.C. circuit with relays operated by the devices controlling the charging and discharging of a capacitor applied between the cathode and trigger electrode of a triggered gas discharge tube. The reception of an uncapped container causes a charge to be fed to the capacitor whereas a capped container effects its discharge. When a predetermined number of successive uncapped containers has been presented the capacitor potential reaches the triggering level of the discharge tube 1 and a visual or audible alarm energized, or the conveyer feeding the containers to the closure applying apparatus is stopped.
