Abstract

926,006. Lining slabs; wall linings. ASSOCIATED LEAD MANUFACTURES Ltd., W. W. ROBSON, and A.G. HELLICAR. Sept. 22, 1961 [July 26, 1960], No. 25966/60. Classes 20 (4) and 87 (1). [Also in Group XL (a)] Slabs made of lead, concrete, a composition of lead and polyethylene, or a ceramic material, are used for lining a nuclear reactor or other vessel, have interlocking stepped edges, and are formed with holes to accommodate fastenings with which the slabs are attached to the vessel wall. The slabs are adapted to fit together so that the stepped edges overlap, and the slabs cover the whole of the wall without being mutually fixed together and in such a fashion that certain of the slabs are directly removable from the wall after the fastenings have been removed. The slabs preferably have the two basic configurations shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and may consist of separate layers which are held together by the bolts attaching the slab to the wall. The preferred slab has an odd number of steps and of the two, A is a truncated stepped pyramid and B is an oblong slab with one pair of edges having inwardly presented sets of steps and the other pair of edges having outwardly presented sets of steps. The basic units can be arranged as shown in Figs. 3 and 4 to cover a given surface. The symbols A<SP>1</SP> and B<SP>1</SP> respectively indicate slabs of type A and B which have been turned over compared to the orientation of the original slabs. If an even number of steps is used, then four basic units are required instead of two. Specification 868,524 is referred to.
