Abstract
925,661. Digging trenches. C. E. ROSE. Aug. 13, 1959 [Aug. 13, 1958], No. 26035/58. Class 68 (1). To avoid misalignment of pipes due to irregularities in the trench in which they are laid, the irregularities are reduced by a device which is hauled along the bottom of the trench, e.g. by a chain 9 attached to the digging machine. The device consists of a block 1 having an inclined leading scraping edge 2, a following shoe 3 which compacts the section in which the pipe is to be laid, and an intermediate, inclined, vertically adjustable shearer 4 which protrudes below the level of the scraper 2 and removes undulations on the trench bottom. The block is kept pressed against one side of the trench by spring-blades 5 adjustable by cams 6. The scraper 2 and the shearer 4 deflect the displaced earth to form a bank on the bottom of the trench at the same side as the springs 5. A pipe-laying attachment may be mounted on the device. Specification 923,801 is referred to.
