An amusement machine comprises a stationary ground support frame, a spindle 6 inclined to the vertical and mounted in a housing 4 on the support frame in spaced relationship from the ground, a plurality of passenger carrier members symmetrically disposed with respect to the spindle, a drive-shaft 15 rotatably mounted in the housing, gear means associated with the drive shaft for rotating the passenger carriers in an orbit inclined to the horizontal about the axis of the spindle and a drive linkage adapted to connect the drive shaft to a prime mover. A central post 1 of the frame is supported by legs 2 and tie-rods 3. The lanternwheel 7 rotating about the spindle 6 on the frame pivotally supports the passenger seats 34. Mounted beneath the lantern wheel concentric with a sleeve 8 of the wheel is a gear ring 19 comprising two plates with tubular separators secured by bolts. The gear ring meshes with a gear 17 which is driven by a shaft 33 connected at one end by a universal connection to the shaft 15 and at the other end to a half-shaft 31, the other half-shaft of which connects with the casing 30 of a differential on a shaft 25 driven by an electric motor 22 on a platform 21. Each passenger seat 34 is supported by an arm 40 on a pivot 35 on a link 36 connected by a pivot 37 to a bracing member 11 connecting the arms 10 of the lantern. A damper 41 is between the arm 40 and link 36 and a rubber pad on the arm 40 co-operates with a buffer-plate 42. One control lever 49 operates a brake band on the ring 19, a second control lever 50 operates the clutch. The inclination of the housing may be adjustable and the speed of the shaft 15 is made adjustable by providing the other halfshaft with a friction clutch to vary the frictional resistance to the other half-shaft.
