Abstract
924,968. Gyroscopic apparatus. BODENSEEWERK PERKIN-ELMER & CO. G.m.b.H. July 1, 1960 [July 2, 1959], No. 23036/60. Class 97 (3). A rate of turn gyroscope 1, Fig. 1, having its spring restraint F 1 connected to an integrating device J, such as a piston 3 moving in a cylinder provided with a leak which is adjustable by means of a valve D, has the spring restraint F 1 hard, e.g. full deflection in the absence of device J is only reached for an angular velocity of 60 degrees per second, and a second spring restraint F 2 is provided which is independent of the integrating device J and is soft, e.g. full deflection is obtained for an angular velocity of 4 degrees per second. The spring restraint F 1 may be provided by an air spring. In a modification, Fig. 2, in which the springs are replaced by electrical elements, a magnet NS provides a signal in coil JA, when the gyroscope precesses, which is fed via the network R 1 , C 1 to amplifier V supplying torque motor M. This corresponds to spring F 1 having its spring constant adjusted by condenser C 1 and integrating device controllable by resistance R 1 . The spring F 2 is replaced by contact 4 moving over a bridge connected resistance connected through resistance R 2 to the amplifier V.
