Abstract

923,987. Balance gear. HY-TORQ PRODUCTS CORPORATION. June 5, 1961 [June 14, 1960], No. 20129/61. Class 80 (2). A motor vehicle differential gear comprises two reversible one-way clutches with rollers 9, 10, which jam between hyperbolic recesses 25 of a driving casing 6 and cylindrical hubs 7, 8 on part axles A, A<SP>1</SP>, the rollers being carried in cages 11, 12, each of which has a Neoprene " O " ring 33 in frictional engagement with the corresponding hub 7, 8 to move the released cage and rollers into a neutral position when their axle overruns. A facial slot and tongue connection (Fig. 5, not shown) between the cages 12, 11 restricts the relative rotary movement of the cages to one half of their total movement between forward and reverse drive positions, thus preventing movement of the rollers of either one clutch beyond a central neutral position during differential overrun, but not preventing two-way drive during straight running.
