Abstract

922,436. Flywheels. AUSTIN MOTOR CO. Ltd. Jan. 25, 1962 [May 16, 1961], No. 17734/61. Class 122 (1). [Also in Group XXXII] An engine flywheel having an inertia-ring 1 attached to a limb 5 by means of a sheet metal diaphragm 4 is provided with a resilient ring 10 of rubber or elastomeric material pre-loaded in compression and clamped between the diaphragm, or the limb, or, as shown, a rigid member 7 fixed to the limb and the adjacent face of the inertia-ring 1 adjoining its inner periphery. The flywheel co-operates with a clutch, the limb 5 being formed by a flange on the end of a motor vehicle engine crank-shaft 6. The inertia-ring 1 is bolted at 3 to the diaphragm which is clamped between the limb and the member 7. The ring 10 also functions as a damper for vibrations of very large amplitude.
