Monomeric formaldehyde is polymerized in the presence of solvents or suspension agents in the presence of ammonia or condensation products of ammonia with aliphatic aldehydes as catalysts. Specified solvents or suspension agents are toluene and n-heptane while hexamethylene tetramine and aldehyde-ammonias are specified catalysts.
