Abstract

921,409. Moulding hollow articles from powdered plastic material. PLASTOMATIC Ltd. Oct. 17, 1961 [Oct. 17, 1960], No. 37212/61. Class 87(2). A hollow article e.g. a milk pail is moulded by placing a quantity of powdered plastic material in a container 4 within a mould 1 2, heating the mould 1, 2 and allowing the material to drop into the mould 1, 2 and form a layer on the walls. The container's closure 5 may consist of a material which melts at a predetermined temperature or an automatic device which opens after a predetermined time. If a double-layered article is desired the material 3 for the outer layer is placed in the mould 1 and that for the inner layer of a different colour and/or quality is placed in the container 4, the outer layer being formed before the material in the container 4 is released. A motor 7 turns a frame 6 which rotatably supports the mould 1, 2. To distribute the powder evenly the mould 1, 2 is adapted to follow a two-way unrhythmical rotational motion. In a modification (see Fig. 3 not shown) a mould can be rotated, rocked and tilted by a hydraulic piston. In a further modification, Fig. 5, a mould 20 is mounted in a ring 22 which is rotated by means of gears 23, 30 and a motor 26.
