Abstract

A water bath air filter has a water bath filtration bowl (11) which is demountable so that it can be filled with water and also emptied and cleaned by the user quite easily. It is mounted on top of the power unit (10) which is designed to draw air through the suction tube (13). This tube is placed inside the fluted suction tube of the water bath filtration bowl (14) and the two are sealed together by a rubber seal (26) which is situated around the base of the power unit suction tube (13). When the unit is switched on a fan draws air in through the connected suction tubes (13 and 14) thus lowering the air pressure in the air filtration bowl cavity (26). This drop in pressure causes air to be drawn in through the water from outside of the air filtration bowl (17). This air is cleaned by the fact that if anything in the air is soluble in water it would be dissolved, anything heavier than water would sink, and anything else would be trapped by the water's natural surface tension. Bubbles which pass through the water are diffused by some baffles placed in the top of the unit, this prevents splashes of water from entering into the suction tube (14) and into the suction chamber of the power unit Air is expelled through vents placed around the suction chamber opposite and adjacent to the suction fan blades. <IMAGE>
