A spring interlacing machine forming an assembly having a number of parallel rows of helical furniture springs 1 coupled together by tie wires 3 which are parallel with and alternate with the rows of springs and interlace the overlapping end convolutions has a feed mechanism whereby the springs 1 and tie wires 3 are cyclically brought forward in a partitioned tray 48 which is placed on the arms 67 which engage hooks on the underside of the tray. The spring locators 17, 18 now move the interlaced springs back a row under the action of the cam mechanism 32 and the arm 67 is lowered to deposit the empty tray in the shoot 81 before being raised to receive another full tray. The drive for the shaft 12 is obtained through sprocket wheels 9, 11, a chain and wheel 8 from a suitable prime mover with a clutch placed between wheels 8 and 9.
