A hammock seat comprises an upholstery unit 9 slung between a top member 9D (Fig. 2) and a front member 6D of the seat to provide a seat part and a back part, and a rigid frame or panel 6A connected to the front member to define and maintain the shape of the seat part irrespective of the displacement of the unit 9 when subjected to the weight of the occupant of the hammock seat. As shown in Fig. 6 the seat base 6 comprises a metal panel 6A which may be concave and has reinforcing ribs 6B. The panel 6A has a neoprene coated terylene base 7 which extends upwards at 7A and is looped at 7B for attachment to a transverse adjuster bar 10. The seat upholstery consists of a polyether or foam rubber mattress 9 (Fig. 2) which passes over the front transverse member 6D of the seat frame and is bonded to the underside of the seat panel 6A. The upholstery passes over a head rest tube 9D and is secured to a tubular adjuster member 10 (Fig. 3). The member 10 has a fixed spigot 10C and a spring- urged spigot 10E. The spigots 10C, 10E may be received in any of a series of aligned holes 11 in the sides of the member 5. A lever 10F is provided to release spigot 10E from a hole 11. As shown in Fig. 2, the seat comprises two U- shaped tubular metal frame members 1, 2 which have slidable sleeves 1A, 2A respectively on each side of the seat. As shown in Fig. 9, the seat consists of two pressed steel frames 12, 12A which are pivotally connected together on each side by a bolt 12B. A rising and falling head rest (Figs. 9 and 12) is provided consisting of an extension member 15. The spigots of an adjuster member 10 may be received in any pair of aligned holes 15D in the member 15. A catch 15G is provided to lock the member 15 in the down position. The seat shown in Fig. 9 may have a base constructed as shown in Fig. 6 or the base may be constructed as shown in Fig. 10 and consist of a metal panel 8A to which a U- shaped frame 8C of light weight steel tubing is welded. The seats are removably secured to a car floor by clips 18 and wing nuts 18A (Fig. 2) or headed screws 18B (Fig. 9).
