Abstract

918,963. Plying and twisting frames. HART & ZN. INSTRUMENTENEN APPARATENFABRIEK N.V., W. C. 'T. Sept. 1, 1960 [Sept. 3, 1959], No. 30239/60. Class 120 (2). A plying and twisting frame for delivering cross-wound yarn packages includes at least one unit comprising two rotatable twist pots 3, 4, Fig. la. The strands 53 to 56 to be twisted are fed via a feed roller 32 into one of the pots by a yarn guide 19 whilst the twisted yarn in the previously filled pot 4 is emptied through a yarn guide 20 on to a cone 57. The yarn guides 19, 20 perform traversing motions in the pots 3, 4, and each comprises a tube having a freely rotatable mouthpiece 23, Fig. 2, provided with radial grooves 27. The grooves 27 ensure that the yarn, as it enters and leaves the pots 3, 4 is twisted in the guide tubes 19, 20. When the twist pot 3 has been filled the incoming strands are severed above the guide tube 19 and are then led into the guide tube 20 of the now empty pot 4, and the twisted strands protruding from the guide tube 19 are then led via the feed roller 32 to the cone 57. The feed roller 32 is so positioned that the inclination of the yarn leaving the roller 32 with respect to the vertical is the same independent of which twist pot the yarn is fed to. Each twist pot is enclosed in a stationary jacket 3a, 4a to reduce aerodynamic losses. Creel arrangement.-The strands 53 to 56 are drawn from alternate supply packages 37 on an arcuate frame 36, the intervening packages being replacement packages. Driving apparatus for twist pots.-The plying units extend along the machine on each side thereof so as to form four parallel rows of twist pots, each pot being mounted on a whorl 11, 12. Between each group of four pots is a pulley 15 having a belt passing over the four whorls of said pots. The pulley 15 is coupled to a spindle 14 carrying a further pulley 16 beneath the machine. A belt from a drive motor zig-zags between the pulleys 16 along one side of the machine and then returns in zig-zag fashion between the pulleys 16 on the other side of the machine. The belts on successive pulleys 15 are arranged in opposite directions so that all the twist pots of the whole machine shall rotate in the same direction. Winding the cone.-The twice twisted yarn is passed to a helically grooved guide roller 39 against which is pressed the cone 57. The cone is held against the roller 9 by a push bar 52 having a sheave 51 at its lower end. A weight 48 has a cable 49 that passes over an eccentric sheave 50 on a fixed arm 38, thence under the sheave 51, and finally up to a fixed point on the arm 38 again. The eccentricity of the sheave 50 is chosen so that the leverage of the weight varies with the increasing dimension of the cone during its winding. A shock absorber 41 is included.
