Abstract

Pharmaceutical laxative compositions comprise a carrier and 4,41-dihydroxy-211-amino-triphenylmethane and/or a salt thereof e.g. the sulphate, hydrochloride, tartrate, citrate, maleate or lactate. They may be in forms suitable for oral or rectal administration e.g. a tablet, dragee, chocolate tablet, syrup, paste, suspension, emulsion or suppository in association with conventional pharmaceutical or confectionary bases and may optionally also contain other laxatives e.g. phenolphthalein, 1,8-dihydroxy anthraquinone or 3,3-bis-(p-acetoxyphenyl)-isatin.
