Abstract

918,381. Bag-making machines. ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS MECANIQUES C. & A. HOLWEG. S. a. r. L. Oct. 22, 1960, No. 36320/60. Class 94(2). In a machine for the production of flat bags a web is perforated along transverse lines, folded longitudinally, torn along the lines of perforation to produce bag lengths which are then folded transverse to the web length and sealed to form a complete bag. During machine operation the perforator is adjustable transversely of the web and the pressure on the web of webdrawing rollers is adjustable and may be released without altering this adjustment. In one embodiment (Figs. 1 and 2) a web 1 is fed from a roll by rollers 7, 8 the driving pressure being adjustable and releasable by means 9-13. The web continues past a glueing roller 15, perforating rollers 16, 17, transverse scoring device 21 and a guide roller 22 mounted eccentrically so as to enable the web length from the reel to be adjusted for timing purposes. Next follows a tube forming device E and a second pair of drive rollers 27, 28 the pressure between which is adjustable by collars 39 and releaseable by cam means 41. The tube passes between a pair of rollers 43, 44 for periodically gripping it to enable a faster running pair of rollers 50, 51 to tear off bag lengths. Waste material between bags is torn off by faster running rollers 46, 47 co-operating with the rollers 50, 51. The roller 51 is hollow and contains rows of spikes which spring through slots in the roller and impale the waste, the spikes being withdrawn under the action of a cam on further rotation of the roller releasing the waste, the waste being stripped off by a rotating rake, Fig. 8 (not shown). The bag lengths then pass to conventional bottom flap folding and glueing mechanism K. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), for producing bags as shown in Fig. 4 the tube forming device E is replaced by longitudinal creasing, cutting and folding devices. Notches between web margins which are folded over to form glue flaps are cut out, suction nozzles removing the waste. Devices turn in the edges of the web and apply adhesive to them after which the bag is doubled transversely by means not detailed.
