Abstract
918,113. Differential pressure gauges. BARTON INSTRUMENT CORPORATION. Jan. 30, 1961, No. 3489/61. Class 106 (2). A differential pressure gauge comprises two housings 11, 12 forming gas chambers on either side of a partition 10 sealed from the atmosphere by packing rings 54 between the housings and the flanges 22, 40 of liquid-filled bellows 14, 16, which are interconnected by a passage 85 in the partition 10 and sealed from the atmosphere by packing rings 23, 43 between the partition and the flanges. Gas or liquid leakage thus takes place into the atmosphere, and the packing rings 23, 43 can be brought into or out of sealing condition by screws 27, 42 independently of rings 22, 40 which can be clamped by bolts 51, 55, these serving also in the embodiment shown to clamp the rings 23, 43. Bellows 14 has a temperature compensating extension 32 communicating with the main bellows via orifices 33. Movement of the bellows against springs 50 displaces a composite stem 63, 62, 61 carried by the end-pieces 20, 37 of the bellows. The stem elements 63, 62 are connected by a sleeve portion 64 through which extends a rocker arm 65, a roller 66 of which bears against a plug 67 in the element 63. Displacement of the stem thus tilts arm 65 and rotates a shaft 68 to give an indication of the pressure differential. Valve elements 81, 83 co-operating with soft valve rings 72, 73 will seal the passageway 85 if the pressure in chambers 13 and 15 exceeds a specified amount. The springs 50 are mounted at one end to anchor ring 45 fixed to flange 40 and at the other end to a spider 35 carried between nuts 83<SP>1</SP>, 84<SP>1</SP> threaded on boss 36 on the end-piece 37 of the bellows, and may be adjusted in tension by rotation of the boss 36.
