Abstract

917,321. Hop picking machines. BENSEMANN, E. G. Dec. 21, 1960, No. 44005/60. Class 6(3). A hop machine incorporating lateral picking units B, across the upper ends of which vine is drawn by rollers H, and a conveyer belt C which carries away the picked hops between its slats, is characterized in that rollers or octagonal baffles D are positioned as shown in the figure between the units B and the conveyer C. The rollers D are mounted to rotate in the frame of the machine. A further set of picking units B<SP>1</SP> may be disposed above the units B whereby the vine may be completely stripped. A guard I consisting of parallel rods guides the vine on to the units B and beneath this guard is a grid K and a rotary fork L which breaks down large heaps of branches and laterals and feeds them on to the belt C. A bunch roller M located behind the upper end of the last picking unit together with the roller N prevent recirculation of picked laterals. The conveyer C may be formed of chain wire mesh netting to allow hop petals and seeds to fall through.
