Abstract

915,412. Blending powders and liquids by gas currents. VOMETEC N.V. June 7, 1961 [June 10, 1960], No. 20590/61. Class 86. In a method and apparatus for mixing granular materials either alone or with liquids a container 1 has a porous bottom 3 through which fluidizing gas is introduced from a supply A. A jet of gas from a higher pressure supply B is introduced at 7 and entrains materials from the " dense phase" fluidized bed C; they travel in the direction of the arrows D into a conical expansion chamber 9 arranged above the container 1, where the materials fall back as at E. The velocities of the gases A and B on entering the container 1 are such that the velocity of gas A is not high enough to remove the solids completely from the container while that of conveying gas B exceeds the conveying velocity of the heaviest materials, so that lighter and heavier components are completely blended. Filters 11 may be provided to catch very light particles entrained in the exhaust gas. A liquid H may be added by means of the tube 13; it may be induced by a Venturi provided in the tube 13 or the tube 6, see also Fig. 2 (not shown). There may be more than one inlet for the conveying gas B, see Fig. 4, which shows a mixing container 23 having a tapered lower portion 24 provided with porous plates 29 and gas inlets 22, and a flat bottom 25 having a discharge valve 26.
