Abstract

915,109. Feeding sheets. ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH) Ltd. May 14, 1959 [Feb. 15, 1958], No. 4990/58. Class 100 (1). Carton blanks 11 are separated sequentially from a stack 12 by an oscillating sucker 13 and transferred to one of a set of grippers 17, 18 on a rotatable carrier 19, and discharged on to a conveyer chain 52 provided with pusher members 53 thereon for conveyance to a cartoning machine. The carrier 19 has three arms 21 each having a set of grippers thereon, and it is driven such that the grippers decelerate and stop at a position beyond the blank-receiving position, then move rearward to receiving position, and finally moved forward to the sheetrelease position at an accelerated rate. Each gripper jaw 17 is fixed, and each jaw 18 is pivotally mounted at 39 and formed with an arm 41 carrying a roller 42 which is urged by a spring 44 against a control cam 43. The cam 43 is secured on a shaft 46 adapted to be rocked by an arm 47 carrying a roller engaging a rotatable cam 49. The carrier 19 is secured to a sleeve rotatably mounted on the shaft 46, and a driven gear 27 secured on the sleeve meshes with an intermediate gear 28 carried by an arm 31 which is freely mounted on the sleeve. A link 32 is pivoted at one end on the shaft of the gear 28, and at the other end to a crank-pin of a crank which is driven in timed relationship with the sucker 13. A driving gear on the crank-pin meshes with the gear 28, whereby rotation of the crank causes the driving-gear to orbit about the axis of the crank-shaft to drive the gears 28, 27, and hence the carrier 19. The grippers 17, 18 are bifurcated to receive the sucker 13 during sheet transfer, and the pivot 14 about which the sucker rocks is coincident with the top edge of the leading blank 11 in the stack. When a blank is released by the grippers, a rotatable member 57 engages the leading edge to position the blank on support rails 56 prior to engagement by a pusher 53 on the conveyer chain 52.
