Abstract

A powdered or granular dyeing and detergent composition, suitable for use in household washing machines, comprises a mixture of dyestuffs having an affinity for diverse textile fibres and, in an amount sufficient to impart detergent characteristics to the composition, a water-soluble non-ionic synthetic organic detergent which has been caused to assume solid characteristics either (a) by forming a solid concretion product from the detergent and urea, or (b) by the addition of an absorbent solid, such as finely-divided silica, to the detergent. Suitable non-ionic detergents are alkyl- or alkylarylpolyethylene glycol ethers and polyoxyethylene esters of fatty or resin acids. The composition may also contain an anionic detergent such as an alkylbenzene sulphonate, an optical whitener, a dyeing assistant such as sodium chloride or sulphate and a sequestering agent, such as sodium hexametaphosphate. The second Provisional Specification refers to the use, in the above powdered or granular composition, of an anionic-, instead of a non-ionic-, detergent. The first Provisional Specification also describes a paste, as distinct from a powdered or granular composition, which contains one or more dyestuffs together with a liquid non-ionic detergent.ALSO:A powdered or granular dyeing and detergent composition, suitable for use in household washing machines, comprises a mixture of dyestuffs having an affinity for diverse textile fibres, for example, a mixture of water-soluble and water-dispersible dyestuffs, and, in an amount sufficient to impart detergent characteristics to the composition, a water-soluble non-ionic synthetic organic detergent which has been caused to assume solid characteristics either (a) by forming a solid concretion product from the detergent and urea, or (b) by the addition of an absorbent solid, such as finely-divided silica, to the detergent. Suitable non-ionic detergents are alkyl- or alkylaryl-polyethylene glycol ethers and polyoxyethylene esters of fatty or resin acids. The composition may also contain an anionic detergent, an optical whitener, a dyeing assistant such as sodium chloride or sulphate and a sequestering agent, such as sodium hexanetaphosphate. The second Provisional Specification refers to the use, in the above powdered or granular composition, of an anionic-, instead of a non-ionic-, detergent. The first Provisional Specification also describes a paste, as distinct from a powdered or granular composition, which contains one or more dyestuffs together with a liquid nonionic detergent.
