Abstract

Apparatus for applying coating material to objects such as individual articles or continuous sheet or web materials comprises a storage unit 1 for material to be applied as a coating, a casting unit 2 for feeding the coating material under gravity in the form of a free falling curtain 28 and applying the same on to an object 70, a collecting unit 3 disposed below the casting unit for collecting coating material not applied to the object and adapted to return such coating material to the storage unit, an input conduit 16 for feeding coating material from the storage unit to the casting unit and means for maintaining the coating material in a liquid state in the storage unit, casting unit and collecting unit in order to enable such material to be circulated freely throughout the apparatus. This is achieved by enclosing all the vessels and units which circulate the coating material by jacket members defining hollow spaces which are interconnected and through which a heat transfer medium freely circulates. <PICT:0914010/III/1>
