913,399. Discharging-doors for retorts. NORTH THAMES GAS BOARD. May 19, 1961, No. 18365/61. Class 55 (1). A vertical gas retort has a water seal at its lower end comprising an outlet drain 13 having a closure member 14 which is attached to one end of a lever 16 which is mounted to pivot about a horizontal axis 19 and a vertical axis 20, movement about the axis 19 moving the member 41 axially towards and away from the drain 13, and movement about the axis 20 moving the member 14 to one side of the drain, means 23 being provided for holding down the end of the lever 16 remote from the member 14 so that the member 14 is held up to close the drain. The lever 16 is pivoted by a pin 19 to a bracket 18 which is pivotally attached by a pin 20 to a plate 21 fixed to the water seal. The member 23 has guides 24 running on the lever 16 and is movable along the lever 16 by a handle 17.
