Abstract

A herbicide applicator in the form of a solid body comprises a selective herbicide incorporated into a unitary wax carrier, the said herbicide being a halogenated aryloxy or alkylaryloxy monocarboxylic aliphatic acid, a salt or mixture thereof, and the carrier and herbicide being attrition expendable so as to deposit an adherent coating of wax and herbicide on weeds when the unitary solid wax carrier is passed in attrition contact with said weeds. The wax may be a vegetable wax such as carnauba wax and candelilla, an animal wax such as beeswax, a mineral wax or a resinous material having similar properties. Waxes which are too hard may be softened by addition of softeners such as lanolin, lard oil, petrolatum or mineral oil. Preferably the melting point of the wax is above 130 DEG F. The preferred herbicides are halogenated phenoxyacetic or alkylphenoxy-acetic acid, their salts (including amine salts) and mixtures thereof. The amount of herbicide to be incorporated is at least 10% by weight.
