In a method of removing the coating from the ends of welding electrodes 5 the latter are fed from the coating unit on to a conveyer 6, lightly clamped thereon by spring-urged plates 7 and moved past a rotating roll 1 which removes the coating from the ignition end of the electrodes while the coating on the clamping end is removed by a brush roll 9.. The roll 1 has blunt projections 2 thereon with an included angle between the sides thereof of preferably 90 degrees.
