Abstract

910,281. Regulating switches. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 23, 1958 [Jan. 3, 1958], No. 264/58. Class 38 (5). [Also in Groups XXXV and XXXVI] An interpolating device comprises a tapped voltage divider, Fig. 1, and a wiper therefor 2, 3 and a transformer 5, the secondary of which is shunted by a resistance 4 from which a second wiper 6 or 7 may derive an incremental voltage which is a variable fraction of the voltage between adjacent tappings on the main divider 1, the two dividers being energized by the same voltage. Odd and even contacts associated with the transformer are arranged in inner and outer concentric circles, with intermediate dummy contacts providing for a smooth wipe. The step-down ratio of transformer 5 is such that the potential across 180 degrees of the resistance 4 is equal to the voltage between adjacent taps. A resistance ribbon 4, Fig. 2, is wiped by brushes 21 carried on a disc 18 secured to a shaft 19, and the contacts 2, 3, mounted on a disc 12, are driven also by shaft 19 through two planetary gears 24, 25. A double choke 30 is housed within the autotransformer which is wound on a toroidal core at one end of the casing, one winding being connected to each end of the auto-transformer, and the second transformer 5 is housed at the remote end. The apparatus is said to be used to produce a feedback signal indicative of position in a servo-control system for the control of machine tools. Specifications 802,472 and 910,282 are referred to.
