909,595. Automatic lathe details. CONE AUTOMATIC MACHINE CO. Inc. May 24, 1961, No. 18690/61. Class 83 (3). Stock feed mechanism for multi-spindle lathes comprises a base member and first and second stock-engageable rotatable drive members supported on parallel shafts oscillatable on the base member so as to be brought into engagement with stock in one of the lathe spindles. Drive or feed rollers 68, Fig. 5, are carried on vertical shafts 66 supported in housings 64 pivotable about the axis of a casing 46 by means of hollow shafts 52. A drive shaft 56 is arranged within each hollow shaft to drive the rollers 68 continuously through bevel gears 76, 74. A gear-wheel 60 on the inner end of the drive shaft meshes with a similar wheel on the adjacent parallel shaft for the corresponding roller housing. One of the shafts is driven by an electric motor 40, Fig. 1, and a reduction gear. A gear 78, Fig. 5, secured to the housing 64, meshes with a gear on the adjacent housing of the other roller, a lever 80 is also secured to one of the gears so that on rotation of the lever the feed rollers can be moved into stock-feeding position, Fig. 2, or clear of the stock path to permit indexing of the spindle carrier. The lever 80 is connected by linkage 84, 88, 90-92 to a cam 96 on the overhead cam-shaft 36 of the machine. U.S.A. Specification 2,130,809 is referred to.
