908,362. Weighing-apparatus. AVERY Ltd., W. & T. May 15, 1961 [Feb. 27, 1960], No. 6941/60. Class 143. Weighing - apparatus incorporating a weight counterbalancing lever system is arranged to give indications of the weight of a load and of the cost of transporting the load a given distance. A transparent sector type chart N is fixed to an arm projecting from the lever J and therefore rocks with the lever. The chart has weight indicia arranged in an arc near its perimeter. Light from a source Q passes through the screen and, by means of mirrors R, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>11</SP>, causes an image of the weight indicia to be projected on a translucent screen B. A particular weight index, according to the angular position of the chart N, will appear against a pointer on the screen and the weight can therefore be read. The chart N also has price indicia arranged in arcs at differing distances from the perimeter, each are corresponding to a certain price per unit weight. Light from the source Q is also directed, by a mirror S, through the price computations on the chart and by means of mirrors S<SP>1</SP>, S<SP>11</SP>, S<SP>111</SP> causes an image to be projected on a translucent screen E, on which the price can be read against a pointer. The variation in price in respect of the differing distances loads are to be transported is taken into account by selecting the indicia are of price per unit weight appropriate to a particular distance, the mechanism for this purpose comprising a rack U, carried by a member T on which the mirrors are mounted, engaged by a pinion V. When a knob D is set according to a selected distance the movable light beam passes through the appropriate arc of price indicia and an image is accordingly projected on the screen E. The apparatus therefore shows the actual weight of the load on one screen and the total freight charge on the other screen.
