Abstract

908,254. Sound tape cassettes. TEFI WERKE G.m.b.H., [trading as TEFI WERKE G.m.b.H. & CO. KOMM.-GES.]. July 6, 1961 [July 13, 1960], No. 24561/61. Class 40 (2). An automatic sound record playback apparatus comprises a casing with a slotted opening through which a cassette containing an endless sound tape is inserted, and automatic means interacting with the cassette and tape in required sequence. The tape may be provided with a single spiral track or parallel multitracks and may comprise mechanical or magnetic sound recordings. The coil of tape is supported in a known manner on a rotatable support inside the cassette 4 and a loop 17 of tape passes from the inner to the outer periphery of the coil through apertures 16 in the cassette. In one embodiment the cassette is passed through an aperture 3 in the casing on to a hinged platform 7 in which position a sliding member 18 enters behind the loop 17 and pulls it to an extended position 17<SP>1</SP>. The member 18 is of sufficient width such that when the hinged platform 7 is lowered the loop of tape drops to the broken line position shown in Fig. 4, after which a tensioning roller 21 is moved to position 21<SP>1</SP> to pull the tape into driving engagement with a capstan 11, and a pick-up 22 (or a magnetic head) engages the record surface. In a second embodiment, Fig. 5, the hinged platform 7 is omitted and the capstan 11 and the coupling cone 13 for the rotatable tape support are moved axially to and from the operative positions.
