Abstract

907,436. Containers. HESSER, MASCRIN. ENFABRIK A.G., Fr. Jan. 17, 1961 [Feb. 11, 1960; Aug. 10, 1960], No. 1899/01. Class 18. A container for liquids or other filling commodity comprises a tubular body 1 made of cardboard laminated or coated with a heat - sealable synthetic plastic material 5 and formed with an overlapping seam and end covers 2, 3 made of thermoplastic sheet material, which is shaped whilst in plastic condition and the seam and covers secured by heat sealing. To increase the rigidity of the container the seam is disposed about one of the corners and to prevent penetration of the liquid into the cardboard layer 4, the outer surface of the inner overlapping edge is ground off obliquely to expose the synthetic plastic lamination 5 and the seam on the inner side is covered with a strip (not shown) which is heat sealed to the laminations 5. The covers, which are basically identical have U-shaped side folds with the outer portion shorter than the inner one to facilitate sealing by means of jaws, without melting the former and may be provided with frusto-conical projections 6 to strengthen them. The edge of the top cover 2 may be provided with a tear-off flap -7 defined by score lines 8, which also define an opening for pouring out the contents. For liquids a deeply drawn discharge indentation 10, may be provided, which may be pierced by a drinking straw. In another embodiment (not shown) the outer and inner portions of the U-shaped folds are inclined outwardly. In a further embodiment only the upper part of the folds is inclined outwardly. In a still further embodiment, which is intended to be a vacuum container the walls of the covers are thinner than in the previous embodiments so that the walls may be pressed by the atmospheric air pressure on to the contents of the container.
