Abstract

905,054. Asbestos-rubber sheets &c. ARMSTRONG CORK CO. Aug. 19, 1960 [Aug. 31, 1959], No. 28774/60. Class 96. To a slurry of chrysotile asbestos fibres is added a water-soluble sulphonated naphthaleneformaldehyde condensation product, e.g. of two to six naphthalene groups, to react with the asbestos; and synthetic rubber latex, e.g. polymers of butadiene or isoprene or their copolymers with styrene or acrylonitrile, or polychloroprene is added and deposited on the fibres by agitating the slurry which is then sheeted on a Fourdrinier or cylinder machine or formed in shaped moulds. There may be 0.1 to 5.0 parts of the condensate or its alkali metal salt per 100 of fibres. A product containing 20 to 30% of rubber may be used for gaskets, or as a backing for plastic floor-covering material.
