Abstract
904,941. Xerographic processes. RITZERFELD, W., and RITZERFELD, G. Oct. 7, 1960 [Oct. 22, 1959], No. 34444/60. Drawings to Specification. Class 98 (2). A hectographic printing master sheet, i.e. prepared from a thin flexible sheet of paper, synthetic material or metal having a semi-conducting layer by electrostatically charging the layer, exposing the layer to light from an original, developing the sheet at the image areas by means of an electrostatically charged medium comprising a mixture or compound of a resin and/or a wax or waxes with one or more dye materials or dye components soluble in alcohol; and fixing the sheet thermally, chemically or mechanically. The developer may be in the form of a powder, paste or liquid and consists of a dye (e.g. crystal violet, malachite green, fuchsine, auramine, victoria blue, setopalin, setocyanine, diphenyl methanes, spiroidipyrane, phenolphthalein, thymolphtalein, azodyes, metal salts which form alcohol soluble complex salts with organic compounds, carbon black, a wax (e.g. carnauba, montan wax, stearin) and/or a resin (e.g. colophony, ester gum, shellac, melumin, modified phenol formaldehyde resins, alkyd resins, silicone resins, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrol). To loosen the structure of a powder developer substances which develop gases on heating, e.g. a bicarbonate, and an organic acid, may be added. For a developer in the form of a liquid or paste chlorinated hydrocarbon, carbon tetrachloride, trichloroethylene, " Aerosol " or " Freon " (Registered Trade Mark) may be used for the above purpose. The photoconductive sheet may comprise a base of " Cellophane, " (Registered Trade Mark) P.V.C., paper or metal, and a photoconductive layer of sulphur, selenium compounds, zinc oxide or sulphide, anthracene or polynuclear cyclic hydrocarbons and the base and layer may be bound with cellulose, cellulose ester, polyvinyl chloride, polyesters, polyamides, polycarbonates, &c. Before the sheet is fixed an electrostatic insulating powder, e.g. glass dust, may be applied to the image areas and a second image from a second original formed using a different dye which does not adhere to the insulating material. The insulating material is removed prior to fixing. The apparatus of Specification 904,942 is described as being suitable for the process of this invention.
