Abstract
904,497. Night safes. CHUBB & SON'S LOCK & SAFE CO. Ltd. Nov. 30, 1960 [Dec. 7, 1959], No. 41579/59. Class 18. A night depository equipment comprises a rotatable receptacle 22 to receive valuables when a lockable flap 2 is opened and an electric motor 5 to rotate the receptacle 22 and thus to deliver the valuables to a storage safe. The flap 2 is unlocked by turning a key in a lock 10 which by means of a cable 9 draws a pin 8 from an extension 7 of a sliding rod 6 allowing the rod 6 to slide and thus the flap 2 pivoted at 3 to open. A ramp 20 on the rod 6 engages one arm of a bell crank 17 turning it against a spring 19 and thus allowing a four armed lever pivoted at 14 to turn under the action of a second spring 15. One arm 16 of the four armed lever closes a switch 13. Valuables are placed in the receptacle 22 mounted on a drum 21; the flap 2 is then closed and locked, the rod 6 returning to its initial position in which it closes a second switch 11 in series with the first, supplying current to the motor 5 which turns the drum 21 via a worm drive. When the drum 21 has turned through a suitable angle vanes 28 engage the contents of the receptacle 22 removing them therefrom so that they fall under gravity into a shoot 29 leading to the storage safe. When the drum 21 has completed one revolution the cam 33 engages a further arm 34 of the four armed lever turning it against the spring 15 and releasing both the switch and the bell crank 17, the latter thereafter holding the arm 16 away from the switch 13. The flap 2 cannot be reopened while the drum is rotating since a protrusion 31 on a lever 30 pivoted to the rod 6 engages the end of an arm 32 of the four armed lever which is in its released position. This engagement does not occur when the flap 2 is first opened since the arm 32 is then in its depressed position and the arm 30 rides up over it.
