904,276. Discharge lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 8, 1961 [Feb. 11, 1960], No. 4680/61. Class 39 (1). An electric discharge tube, e.g. for electronic flashlight lamps, comprises an activated cold cathode consisting of a high melting point metal rod 2, e.g. tungsten, on which are wound a few turns of metal wire 3 having an iron sheath 5 and a core 4 consisting of an alkali or alkali-earth metal alloy, e.g. BaAl 4 , mixed with a reducing material, the sheath of the wire being ground away so that the core engages the metal rod. The filling may be xenon at a pressure of 30 cms. of mercury, and a conductor 4 is provided on the outer face of the bulb 1 serving as an ignition electrode.
