Abstract

903,406. Force-feed lubricating. SCHLOSSHAUER, A. R. June 30, 1959 [Aug. 19, 1958], No. 22447/59. Class 12 (3). A device for automatically lubricating moving lubrication stations, such as the rollers 31 of a conveyer belt, has a lubricating head 3 pivotally mounted so as to be movable pivotally by said stations 31 against the action of a spring 4. The head comprises a piston 8 in a bore 9 of a cylinder 7, the piston being urged inwardly by springs 21 located between radial arms 20 of a piston headpiece 19 and pins 22 on the cylinder. The displacement of the piston 8 is by means of an auxiliary pressure medium such as compressed air controlled by a stop-valve 23 actuated by a lubricating station. The cylinder 7 is connected alternately through ports 11, 10 to a supply tube 17 for the compressed air and to an outlet 18 therefor by means of a spring-pressed piston 14 controllable by the compressed air. The supply tube 17 extends to the stop valve 23 which is connected to a supply duct 24 and when the valve is closed the tube 17 is connected to an outlet 25 of the valve 23. A member 26 of the valve 23 is actuated by a lever 28, pivotable about a spindle 27, and, as a spindle 29 having a roller 31 enters the station, the lever 28 is actuated by the roller 31 to operate the valve 23 and connect the channel 24 to the tube 17. Compressed air is accordingly supplied through the tube 17 and valve 14 to the bore 9. The piston 8 is thus moved out of the cylinder 7 against the springs 21. The piston 8 has an axial bore 32, parallel channels 35, 36 connected by a screw-threaded bore 37 to a lubricant supply channel, a transverse bore 38 connecting the channel 35 to the bore 32 and transverse bores 39, 40 connecting the channel 36 with the bores 32. A lubricating nipple, comprising a spring-urged piston 41 received by the bore 32, has a delivery bore 43 extending to a constriction 42 forming an annular chamber connected to the bore 39. The piston 41, having a follower piston 49 connected thereto by a rod 48, serves as a valve to open and close the bores 38, 40 and allow lubricant to be received between the pistons 41, 49 so that, on the piston 41 being moved further into the piston 8, the lubricant is forced through the bore 40, channel 36, bore 39, constriction 42 and the delivery bore 43 to lubricate the roller 31. The air supplied to the duct 24 passes through an air-cleaner 54, pressure regulator 55 and safety valve 56, which is closed by a lock 57 if the conveyer is reversed. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 833,819.
