Abstract
902,000. Pens for recording-apparatus. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 28, 1960 [Oct. 29, 1959], No. 36771/59. Class 146 (3). [Also in Group XIX] A marking - element, carried by a pivoted arm sweeping transversely over a travelling record-sheet in recording - apparatus (see Group XIX), comprises a hollow cylinder 7 for example of metal, enclosing and supporting a strip or wedge 8 of porous material capable of absorbing marking liquid for example an aniline dye. The porous strip 8 may present a knife edge 9 along a generatrix of the cylinder. The remaining space may be filled with ink or with absorbent material saturated with ink and is sealed at the end 10 with a removable cover. The marking device of Fig. 4 (not shown) comprises a solid cylinder of porous material such as alumina or chalk with a strip or knife edge of metal, for example, stainless steel, inserted in a slot and the whole may be enclosed in a metal jacket. The element may have a slight taper. The effective line of contact along a generatrix may comprise a line of micro holes drilled through the wall of the element. The element may make rolling contact with the strip. Sintered materials may be used as the porous material.
