Abstract

901,638. Carbon brushes. SOC. LE CARBONE-LORRAINE. April 23, 1959 [April 29, 1958], No. 13872/59. Class 35. A carbon brush 1 for use at high altitudes or in rarified atmospheres has formed therein at least one channel or other receptacle 2 which contains a mixture of tin sulphide and a binding agent comprising either a styrene/polyester resin or a low melting-point highly electrically conductive metal. The mixture may comprise by weight 90% sulphide and 10% binder, the metal binder may be silver powder, and the resin binder may be cured in situ in the channel either by the application of heat or in the cold. The receptacles 2 may be staggered pockets as in Fig. 1, deep slots, not shown, parallel with the longest side of the brush, or slots which extend diagonally or obliquely (Fig. 6) across the brush end face.
