Abstract

Carbon monoxide and one or more olefins are recovered from a gas by successive absorption in and desorption from an aqueous solution of mono- and di-valent copper, 5-20% of the copper being in the bivalent form, and are thereafter separated by fractional distillation. The gas treated may be obtained by cracking a hydrocarbon and removing sulphur, and acetylenic compounds, and hydrocarbons liquid under normal conditions, from the cracked product by a known method. Initial separation may be effected at a pressure of 18-30 atmos. (gauge) and a distillation column temperature of -45 to -25 DEG C. An example is given.
