Abstract
899,948. Polyurethanes; organo-tin polymers. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 3, 1960 [Oct. 12, 1959], No. 34482/59. Class 2(5) [Also in Groups IV(b) and V] The reaction between polyisocyanates and water or hydroxyl-containing substances to give polyurethanes which may be rigid or flexible, homogeneous or cellular is catalyzed by basic organotin compounds of formula R 1 R 2 SnX 1 X 2 (see Group IV(b)) wherein R 1 and R 2 are the same or different alkyl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl groups and X 1 and X 2 are the same or different groups which are attached to the tin atom through either an oxygen or a nitrogen atom, at least one of X 1 or X 2 containing at least one tertiary nitrogen atom. The compounds may be of formulae and wherein R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 4 and R 5 are the same or different alkyl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl groups, R 6 is an alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl group, A is a divalent aliphatic radical containing at least two carbon atoms, B is hydrogen or alkyl and n is an integer. R 1 and R 2 may also be joined to comprise a 4 or 5 carbon chain or a chain of 4 carbon atoms and a hetero atom, said chain forming a ring with the tin atom. The invention also comprises condensation polymers of formulae obtained by heating compounds (1) or (2) above, and obtained by heating compound (3) above: R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 4 , R 5 , R 6 , A and n are as defined and m is an integer from 2 to 10.
