Abstract

The invention comprises 3-amino-s-triazolo [4,3-c]-pyrimidines of formula <FORM:0898408/IV (b)/1> wherein R1 stands for alkyl, alkylthio or amino, R2 stands for an alkyl radical optionally substituted by one or more halogen atoms, or for a halogen atom, and R3 stands for hydrogen or for an alkyl or alkenyl radical, the preparation thereof by reaction of a hydrazinopyrimidine of formula II <FORM:0898408/IV (b)/2> with a cyanogen halide under weakly alkaline, neutral, or weakly acidic reaction conditions and at 0 DEG C.-25 DEG C., and pharmaceutical preparations containing the products (see Group VI). Specifications 859,287 and 864,731 are referred to.ALSO:Therapeutic compositions comprise as sole or part active ingredient one or more of the pyrimidine derivatives which in one tautomeric form have formula <FORM:0898408/VI/1> where R1 stands for an alkyl, alkylthio or amino radical, R2 stands for an alkyl radical, optionally substituted by one or more halogen atoms, or for a halogen atom, and R3 stands for hydrogen or for an alkyl or alkenyl radical, in admixture with a non-toxic pharmaceutical carrier or diluent therefor. The compositions may also include one or more known therapeutic substances such as anti-inflammatory agents (e.g. 9-(2-dimethylaminopropyl)-10-thia-1,9-diaza - anthracene, prednisolone, antihistamines, or hydrocortisone), sedatives (e.g. phenobarbitone), and antibacterial agents (e.g. sulphadimidine or penicillin V). Preferred compositions are for oral administration (e.g. tablets, pills, capsules, solutions, syrups, suspensions or dispersible powders) or parenteral administration (e.g. injectable solutions or suspensions in aqueous or non-aqueous vehicles, or sterile soluble or dispersible powders from which injectable solutions or suspensions can be prepared). Compositions suitable for topical application include powders for insufflation, sprays for inhalation, and aerosol preparations. The compositions are useful for the treatment of respiratory dysfunctions, they possess anti-inflammatory properties, inhibit granulomata, and have sedative and analgaesic properties.
