Abstract
A process for the reduction of the iron content of gelatine comprises adding a small amount of a metal salt of a strong mineral acid (the metal of the salt not being iron) to an aqueous solution of the gelatine prior to passing the solution through a bed of cation-exchange material charged with hydrogen ions. The solution may be passed from the cation-exchange material to a mixed bed of cation-exchange and anion-exchange materials.
