Abstract

896,973. Marking cables. MILFORDASTOR Ltd. Oct. 20, 1960 [July 23, 1959],No. 25254/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 100(2) In apparatus for marking cables which is driven by the passage of the cable therethrough, the cable is first passed through a pre-heating unit to raise the temperature of the cable to substantially the temperature of the marking or printing dies of the apparatus. The apparatus may be as described in Specification 877,113, wherein the cable rotates a cylinder having heated dies and an automatically changing numberprinting mechanism thereon which mark the cable through a transfer foil. The pre-heating unit may be of tunnel construction with electric radiant heating elements, or gas or other heating units therein, and the cable is heated to approximately 125‹ C. The cable may be cooled on leaving the marking apparatus by passing it through a unit which is cooled by water or streams of air.
