Abstract
A cross-linked copolymer is prepared by heating a mixture of b -(formyl-N-methylamino)-ethyl acrylate and a 40% solution of divinylbenzene in ethyl styrene with azo-bisisobutyronitrile in a methyl ethyl ketone solvent. Specification 854,140 is referred to.ALSO:Acid chloride derivatives are removed from N-carboxy-a -amino acid anhydrides (such as g - methyl - L - glutamic - N - carboxy anhydride), obtained by reacting phosgene with an a -amino acid, by bringing a solution of said anhydride containing said chlorides into contact with a synthetic resin comprising a polymer or copolymer of an ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid containing an acyl-N-alkylamino group. Suitable polymers are derived from b -(formyl-N-methylamino)-ethyl acrylate, b -(acetyl-N-methylamino)-ethyl acrylate and b -(formyl-N-methylamino)-ethyl methacrylate with or without the use of divinyl benzene or divinyl pyridine as crosslinking agents. The polymers may be regenerated after use by treatment with, e.g. dimethyl formamide. b - (Formyl - N - methylamino) - ethylacrylate is prepared by refluxing b -(formyl-N-methylamino)-ethanol with glacial acrylic acid in presence of ferric chloride.
