895,313. Pneumatic tyres. CLAYTON, T. A. (Soc. Fiancaise du Pneu Englebert). Aug. 30, 1960, No. 29821/60. Class 144 (2). A tread reinforcing belt 4 comprises two layers of parallel metal strips 4a, 4b, each embedded in rubber 5a, 5b of less than 70 Shore hardness and disposed with their respective strips crossing each other symmetrically with respect to the mid-circumferential plane X-X at an angle of 10 to 30 degrees to said plane. The reinforcement may be employed on a carcase of radial cords 1. For transverse rigidity the distance a between adjacent strips 4a of a layer is not greater than the width b of a strip. Fig. 3 shows the belt 4 surmounted by an additional belt 6 of rubber having a hardness greater than that of the tread 3 or the embedding rubber 5a, 5b, the belt 6 having a radially inwardly extending lip 6a at each edge to enclose the belt 4. Rubber pads 7 are disposed between the edges of the belt 4 and the carcase cords 1. Specification 628,060 and U.S.A. Specification 2,811,998 are referred to.
