Abstract
895,167. Upholstering seats. AUSTIN MOTOR CO. Ltd. Dec. 9, 1960 [Dec. 24, 1959], No. 43810/59. Class 52(4) In a method of applying covering material to the cushion 2 and squab 3 of a vehicle seat 1, the seats are mounted in upright position in tip-up jigs on an endless conveyer 4 and are carried beneath automatic spray-guns 5 by which flexible adhesive is applied to the top face of the seat cushion 2 and top of squab 3 then beneath electrostatic flock spraying hoppers 6 which distribute flock covering material over the adhesive-coated areas. Each jig in turn is then automatically tipped so that the seat lies on its back and spray-guns 7 and hoppers 8 apply adhesive and flock to the main face of squab 3 and front face of cushion 2 and the jigs and seat units are then tipped into a V-like attitude and conveyed through an inframed oven 9 to cure the adhesive. After emerging from the oven 9 the seats are off-loaded at G and placed on one end the same side on a conveyer 10 where they are similarly treated by guns 11 and hoppers 12 and oven 13, they are then turned over manually at K to lie on the other side and again sprayed by guns 14 and hoppers 15 and then passed through an oven 16, the finished seats being unloaded at M.
