Abstract

A block of foamed polystyrene has a cavity formed therein, to fit an article to be packed, by the application of a stainless steel pattern heated to between 130 DEG C and 200 DEG C. The foamed polystyrene may be made by heating polystyrene granules that incorporate a low boiling liquid so that discrete heads are formed. The beads are placed in a mould and again heated to expand and consolidate them into a block of final form.
