Abstract

893,314. Monitoring photographic colour printing photo-electrically. ILFORD Ltd. Jan. 17, 1961 [Jan. 25, 1960], No. 2583/60. Class 40(3). A method of photographic colour printing comprises the steps of (a) inserting the negative 4 to be printed in an enlarger, (b) exposing anc processing a trial print 6 with an unexposed fixed out negative 10 in fron of photo-cells 15, 16, 17 sensitive to three primary colours, (c) replacing the negative 10 by the trial print, (d) adjusting the colour of the printing light using the colour modulator 2 until the meter 18 indicates that the light falling on cells 15, 16, 17 has the same composition as that previously passing through the negative 10 and (e) using the adjusted printing light to make the prints. The method depends upon the ratio of reflection density and transmission density of the print paper being equal to its colour contrast to reflected light. If this is not true either more or less than the indicated adjustment to modulator 2 is made. This also has to be done when the print is to be viewed by transmission and not reflection.
