Abstract
Compounds of formula PnNnX2n, in which n is at least 3 and at least one X is a thiocyanate radical, are prepared by reacting PnNnX2n in which n is at least 3 and at least one X is halogen, in solution with an alkali metal or ammonium thiocyanate to replace halogen with -NCS. Any X which is not -NCS may be halogen or hydrocarbon. The thiocyanate is preferably that of potassium, and solvents are methyl cyanide or dimethyl formamide. Reference is made to producing [PN(NCS)2]3 and [PN(NCS)2]4 from the corresponding polymers of PNCl2 and P3N3(NCS)2(C6H5)4 and P4N4(NCS)2(C6H5)6 from P3N3Cl2(C6H5)4 and P4N4Cl2(C6H5)6 respectively. The lower polymers of the above general formula may be further polymerized by heating.ALSO:Novel compounds of formula PnNnX2n, in which n is at least 3 and at least one X is an isothiocyanate radical, are prepared by reacting PnNnX2n, in which n is at least 3 and at least one X is halogen, in solution with an alkali metal or ammonium thiocyanate to replace halogen with -NCS. Any X which is not -NCS is halogen or hydrocarbon. The thiocyanate is preferably that of potassium, and suitable solvents are methyl cyanide or dimethyl formamide. Reference is made to producing P3N3(NCS)2(C6H5)4 and P4N4(NCS)2(C6H5)6 from P3N3Cl2(C6H5)4 and P4N4Cl2(C6H5)6 respectively. The lower polymers of the above general formula may be further polymerized by heating.
