To ensure that a positive driving belt, provided at periodic intervals with thickened portions 4 which engage corresponding recesses 7 in the groove of the pulley 1, is not subjected to bending stresses where it emerges from the thickened portions, the bottom of the pulley groove on either side 6 of the pulley recesses 7 is formed perpendicularly to the radii through the centres of the recesses for a distance equal to the belt diameter.
