Abstract
A sulphide is produced on a surface by first reducing a metallic salt with stannous chloride on the surface (e.g. silver nitrate to silver, or mercuric to mercurous chloride) then subjecting the reduced coating to the action of hydrogen sulphide or ammonium hydrosulphide. Other salts mentioned are those of lead, copper, tin, nickel and cobalt.ALSO:A non-conducting substrate such as plastics, cellulose (e.g leaves) or oxidised metal is provided with a conducting coating by applying a silver salt, reducing this to silver with stannous chloride in the presence of thiourea or thiolactic acid, and converting the silver to sulphide with hydrogen sulphide or ammonium hydrosulphide.
