Abstract

890,147. Froth flotation apparatus. VOITH G.m.b.H., J. M. March 11, 1960 [March 12, 1959; June 27, 1959], No. 8609/60. Class 82(2). [Also in Group VIII] In a flotation apparatus, e.g. for de-inking paper pulp, pulp suspension and air are drawn through ducts 6, 7, respectively, into a flotation cell 2 by an impeller wheel 5 located therein and ink-containing froth formed on the surface of the suspension in the cell 2 is skimmed off by a paddle 11 into a trough 12 whence it flows via a duct 14 to a collecting container (not shown) supplying a secondary flotation cell. De-inked suspension passes over an overflow 9 into a trough 10 whence it is drawn through a duct 13 into another secondary flotation cell. The impeller wheel 5 (Fig. 2) is driven through a shaft 18 by a variable speed motor 20. The duct 6 connects with a spiral housing 21, or an arrangement of inlet guide plates (not shown), whereby a spinning flow is imparted to the pump suspension in a direction similar to the rotation of the impeller wheel 5, which is surrounded by a perforated cylindrical screen 24, topped by a cover plate 25 to distribute and divide air bubbles from the duct 7. Partitions 28 prevent swirling of the pulp suspension in the tank 2, the side walls of which may be converged towards the paddle 11.
